Biography

Serhiy Rebrov (born on March 6, 1974 in Gorlovka, Donetsk region) is a Ukrainian footballer. He is known for partnering Andriy Shevchenko for Dynamo Kyiv and the Ukrainian national team throughout the 1990s.

Rebrov currently plays professional football for Dynamo Kyiv. He has previously played for Shakhtar Donetsk, Tottenham Hotspur, Fenerbahce and West Ham United.

Rebrov joined Shakhtar Donetsk as a youth in the 1990-91 season. In August 1992, he moved to Dynamo Kyiv. Between 1992 and 2000, he scored a record 94 goals in 192 Ukrainian Championship games, and 18 goals in 35 Ukrainian Cup games. He also scored 13 goals in a record 65 international appearances during this period.

He scored several key goals in European competitions, notably in the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons of the UEFA Champions League, including a famous goal from a tight angle against Barcelona. Kyiv did reach the Champions League semifinals in 1999, but lost to Bayern Munich on aggregate.

In June 2000 he was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur for a club record €11 million. However, he could not make a permanent place for himself in the team, and made several loan moves to other clubs such as Fenerbahce and West Ham United. On June 1, 2005, Rebrov became a free agent after declining to re-sign. However, 2 days later he signed a new two-year contract with Dynamo Kyiv, with the option of a one year extension. In the new 2005-06 season, Rebrov first made his presence felt on July 22, 2005, when he scored with a powerful shot, making it 4-0 against FC Stal Alchivsk. He has also scored in several other championship games, extending his national record to almost 100 goals.
