Biography
Rielde's career started in 1974 with TSV Ellhofen before moving
to SV Weiler. In 1982 Riedle Played for Augsburg in the regional
Bayernliga. He Scored 22 goals in the 1985-86 season and was
called into the Germany Under-21 team, and was then transferred
to second division Blau-Weiss Berlin. In 1987 Karlheinz Joined
Werder Bremen, helping them to the Bundesliga title in his first
season. His excellent club form saw him called into the West
German national team, scoring on his debut in Germany's 4-0
victory over Finland. In 1990 Riedle Became one of Europe's most
expensive players by joining Italian side Lazio for £5.5million.
Though in the West German squad for the 1990 World Cup finals
Riedle considered retiring from international football, saying
he was tired of being perennial second choice after Jurgen
Klinsmann and Rudi Voller. Riedle returned to Germany in 1993,
signing for Borussia Dortmund. He Helped Dortmund to successive
Bundesliga title in 1995 and 1996, and his career reached a
pinnacle when he scored twice in European Cup final against
Juventus which Dortmund won 3-1. Riedle, whose contract with
Dortmund was due to run out next year,was also linked to Italian
second division side Perugia, the former club of new Dortmund
coach Nevio Scala. Liverpool needed a top class striker
following Stan Collymore's million summer move to Aston Villa,
so this is the right time for Riedle to join Liverpool FC.
