Biography
Walter Pandiani (born April 27, 1976 in Montevideo) is a
professional football player from Uruguay currently playing for
Espanyol.
Pandiani, who plays as a striker, has previously played
Progreso, Basanez, Penarol (1998-2000), Deportivo de La Coruña
(2000-2002 and 2003-2005), Real Mallorca (2002-2003) and
Birmingham City (2003-2008). He has also made one appearance for
the Uruguayan national team.
He is known for his ability in the air and good tehnique and has
the nickname The Rifle. He had a number of disagreements with
his former club - Deportivo La Coruna, and head coach Javier
Irureta, which contributed to his decision to leave Spain and
join Birmingham City on loan in 2005. Pandiani scored a goal on
his debut for Birmingham and went on to score three more goals,
convincing manager Steve Bruce to sign him on a full contract
the following summer. But he returned to Spain on January 13,
2006 after completing a move to Espanyol for £1.02m. Shortly
after leaving, Manager Steve Bruce named him an "Expensive flop".
