Biography

Angelo Peruzzi (born February 16, 1970 in Viterbo, Italy) is a football (soccer) goalkeeper, who currently plays for Lazio in the Italian Serie A.

Peruzzi has played for Roma (1987-89), Hellas Verona (1989-90), Juventus (1990-99), Internazionale (1999-2000), and Lazio (2000-). With Juventus, he won three scudettos and one Champions League title.

For Italy, Peruzzi has been capped 27 times and played at Euro 96. He was scheduled to be the starter at the 1998 World Cup, but suffered a late injury and was taken off the squad; Gianluca Pagliuca started instead. A similar fate hit Angelo two years later at Euro 2000; again, a last-minute injury kept him out as Francesco Toldo led the team to the final. Peruzzi subsequently quit the national team, but came back four years latter, backing up Gianluigi Buffon at Euro 2004. He was also a member of the national squad that competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
