Biography
Martin Laursen (born July 26, 1977 in Fårvang, Denmark) is a
Danish professional football player who plays as a defender for
Aston Villa F.C.. Laursen has been capped 41 times for the
Denmark national football team, scoring a single goal in the
process.
His first team was the Danish club Silkeborg IF, whom in his
second season, he helped steer to second place in the league in
1997/98. He moved in August 1998 to Italy to play for then Serie
B outfit Hellas Verona, but was plagued by a knee injury for the
majority of the season. Verona won promotion to the Serie A in
his first season at the club, and during his second season in
Italy, he made his debut for the Denmark national team in a
friendly against Portugal, in March 2000, and he was a part of
the Denmark squad at the 2000 European Championship (Euro 2000),
though he did not play a single game due to injury.
