Joaquín, full name Joaquín Sánchez Rodríguez, (born July 21,
1981 in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz) is a Spanish football (soccer)
right winger, famed for his bursts of speed, potent dribbling
ability and dangerous crossing.
Joaquín has been at Real Betis throughout his career though has
been heavily linked with moves to bigger clubs such as Real
Madrid, Liverpool F.C., F.C. Barcelona, Newcastle United and the
likes of Chelsea F.C.. Joaquín was a member of the Spanish squad
at the 2002 World Cup and missed the crucial penalty which
eliminated them from the competition against South Korea in the
quarter-finals. However, he figured again for Spain at Euro
2004.
Joaquín has made over 160 appearances in La Liga and scored 29
goals in his last five season with Real Betis, as well as 3
goals in the Copa del Rey. He has also been a consisent assister
of goals, assisting over 55 goals in the past five seasons.
