Guillermo Franco (born November 3, 1976) is an
Argentine-Mexican football striker born in Corrientes,
Argentina, who formerly played for CF Monterrey of the Primera
División de México.
"EL Guille" began his career with San Lorenzo of Argentina,
playing with the team from 1996 to 2002. Franco joined Monterrey
in the middle of 2002, and made his debut during the 2002
Apertura. Franco has since been quite successful with the
Rayados, and led the league in scoring during the 2004 Apertura
with 15 goals in 16 games. Winning a championship in 2003 and
two sub-championships in 2004 and 2005 , Franco won himself the
"idol" status amongst followers of "Rayados" connecting with the
pasion of the almost cult following Monterrey soccer fans , also
known as "La Adiccion"
He has now naturalized himself Mexican and has now been called
into the Mexico national football team. On his first game with
the Mexican national team, Franco scored a goal and gave two
assists.
He has now signed for Spanish outfit Villarreal CF, where he
plays alongside various other Latin American stars such as
Riquelme and Forlán. |
