Biography
Johan Elmander (born May 5, 1981 in Alingsås, Sweden) is a
Swedish football player, currently playing for the Danish club
Brøndby IF, where he started in 2004. He is a Swedish
international player who has played 17 national team matches,
and he participated in the 2006 World Cup qualification campaign
for his country.
Elmander started his career in Swedish clubs Holmelund and
Örgryte IS before the young striker made the move to big Dutch
club Feyenoord at the age of 18. Here he never became a mainstay
in the first team, and was subsequently put on loan, first at
NAC Breda and later back in Sweden with Djurgårdens IF.
Before the 2004/2005 season he was bought by Danish Superliga
outfit Brøndby IF. Despite not scoring as many goals as was
expected, he has often been the playmaker and creative spark of
the Brøndby team, and he was voted his club's 2005 Player of the
year.
