|Sebastian Deisler (born January 5,
1980 in Lörrach) is a football player in Germany. He is a
central midfield for Bayern München in the German Bundesliga as
well as in the German national team.
Deisler's nickname is Basti. He joined his first club, TV
Turmringen, when he was only six. He joined Borussia
Mönchengladbach in 1995 and then Hertha BSC Berlin in 1999.
Deisler transferred to Bayern Munich in July 2002 for an
undisclosed amount. The midfielder has had to battle career-threatening
knee injuries, and lost half of the 2003-04 season to chronic
depression at Bayern. Luckily, he became optimistic after the
birth of his first child opened new perspectives to him.
Deisler was part of the German squad at Euro 2000 but missed out
on the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004, and looks set to miss the
2006 World Cup with yet another injury to his knee, which will
put him out of action for up to 6 months.
