Mauro Germán Serra Camoranesi (born October 4, 1976 in Tandil,
Argentina) is an Argentine-Italian football (soccer) midfielder,
who currently plays for Juventus of Serie A.
Mauro CamoranesiOn the club level, Camoranesi played for Santos
Laguna (1996-97) and Cruz Azul (1998-2000) in Mexico, as well as
Banfield (1997-98) in his native Argentina. He moved to Italy in
2000, first to Hellas Verona (2000-2001), before transferring to
Juventus in 2002. Camoranesi won with Juventus the 2003-04 and
2004-05 editions of Serie A, and the 2002 and 2003 Italian Super
Cup.
Although Argentine-born, Camoranesi had the possibility to play
for Italy, given his Italian ancestors, so he decided to play
for Azzurri starting from the friendly against Portugal (February
2, 2003, Genoa) and later being part of the team at Euro 2004.
When he accepted Trapattoni's offer to play for Italy instead of
waiting to be called to play for Argentina he said: "I'm not a
traitor, I still feel one hundred per cent Argentine and have
done nothing to find myself in this situation. It's only a
football matter, nothing else.". For Italy he played 17 matches
with one goal. |
