West Brom boss Gary Megson strengthened his squad with the loan
capture of the Romanian international Cosmin Contra.
The Atletico Madrid star joined the Baggies on a season-long
loan deal.
The 28-year-old right-back joined Atletico from AC Milan in a
£5million deal two years ago.
As part of the arrangement, Albion will pay a set figure to the
La Liga side each time the defender plays for the Premiership
new-boys.
Contra made his name at Alaves, helping the Spanish minnows to
the UEFA Cup final three years ago where they lost 5-4 to
Liverpool in a thrilling match.
However, his time in Madrid has been less successful and he had
surgery on an ankle ligament problem last year which restricted
his appearances.
Unfortunately, his time at the Hawthornes was little more
productive, and new boss Bryan Robson decided to cut Contra's
loan short in January 2005. |
