Stephen
Appiah (born December 24, 1980 in Accra) is a Ghanaian football
player. He is 1.78 meters tall and weighs 77 kilograms. He
currently plays for Fenerbahce at the midfielder or defensive
midfielder position. He was rumored to be linked with a move to
Arsenal as part of a deal for Patrick Vieira in the summer of
2005. In July 2005, he was transferred from Juventus to
Fenerbahçe, defending Turkish champions, for €8 million.
Previously, Appiah has been with Accra Hearts of Oak
(1995-1997), Udinese (1997-2000), Parma (2000-02), Brescia
(2002-03), and Juventus (2003-05). A member of the Ghanian
national team, he was the outstanding player on its 2004
Olympics squad. As captain of Ghana's national team, he lead the
team to their first ever FIFA World Cup qualification.
Appiah was awar ded Best Goal of the Champions League Group
